  • Wheel Brightener

I used the D140 Wheel Brightener on Polished Aluminum and now they looked very stained. Nothing works to return it to polished look. What do I need to do to solve this problem? Did not read warning about Polished Aluminum!!!!

        Re: Wheel Brightener

        Bad new first!!

The Wheel Brightener is not designed for uncoated aluminum or anodized rims, and has a warning on the back of the bottles warning against use on these types of wheels.

        Good news:
With some elbow grease and our Mag & Aluminum Polish you should be able to remove the staining caused by using this product. You will need to work the product aggreessively into the rim, then buff off. Try a small areas first, and you may need to repeat the application. But, it should work to correct the problem.

          Re: Wheel Brightener

I used Wheel Brightener on my wheels at on point in time not knowing they were polished aluminum. Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish on a PowerBall fixed that right up.

          Added a write-up I did.

            Re: Wheel Brightener

Here's this from the archive (The pictures don't show up here, I had to go back and find all of them and add them).

Meguiar's Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish Review

In response to my own thread: Wheel Brightener stains?
Wheel Brightener cleans the wheels very well, but is not for polished aluminum (per the instructions). When you put it on polished aluminum, it cleans them, but also dulls them.

To fix this problem, I went out and bought a Mothers Powerball Mini (works very well, I like the extension as you can hold it for a much more precise control), and some Meguiar's Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish. I like the smell of it, cinnamon. You get 8 oz., which is plenty. I wanted to try this instead of the NXT because, well...I don't really have a good reason. Just gave me a reason to go and buy a new Meguiar's product that I did not have.
I had washed and cleaned the wheels with Wheel Brightener. I then wiped them down with NXT Generation Speed Detailer. I applied the Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish to the Powerball and had at it. I went over the wheels fairly quickly (spent about 2 minutes per wheel). Wiped them off with a terry towel, and the wheels are now shiner than I can ever remember seeing them. I am very impressed with this product as I did not have to push hard like some polishes, and it worked very well very quickly. I was also able to polish the center caps as well, since it is OK to use on chrome. I ended up polishing my mirrors (I can see my reflection on those now too!) and my front bumper.
            Here are the wheels after:

And the whole truck ( The Color X is still holding up very well, keeping the single stage paint shiny! )
