  • Consumer vs. Professional Products?

What's the difference between Meguiar's "Consumer" products and "Professional" products? I currently use the liquid Mirror Glaze Professional Hi-Tech Yellow Wax with a number of 26. This has worked great for me (a definite improvement over prior Carnauba waxes used in the past).
I just received a new Consumer Reports magazine that rates car waxes...It doesn't list any of the "Professional" products in the comparison. According to the ratings, Meguiar's best liquid wax (Gold Class Clear Coat Wax) is rated at #6 on the list. The next Meguiar's product is NXT Generation Tech Wax Liquid rated at #9 on the list.
I'm leaning towards the fact that the "Professional" grade waxes are better than the "Consumer" grade. Any help?
    Thanks,
    Mike H.

I think there is a little disdain towards the CR article. Another forum member had a great quote from the article, something like their #1 car wax can cause marring on paint. Sounds like a good #1 choice to me.

As far as durability fof waxes, I would tend to say that the synthetic waxes like #21, #20, and Nxt tend to last the longest. Then #26 and Gold Class behind that.

I agree with Murr's above post....

I would guess CR tested the waxes easily bought at your local Walmart or Target thus nothing in the pro-line.

IMO... its hard to have a magazine that tests just about any product under the sun have "valid" ratings. They can not be an expert on all of the products they test!?!?

Consumer Reports is absolutely 100% worthless. I have never used a bad or average Meguiar's product.

You need to remember that Meguiar's sells to professional detailers, the automobile companies and retail consumers.

If I recall correctly, Meguiar's biggest seller is the consumer line. They have to compete with Turtle Wax, and a bunch of other consumer products that promise instant gratification that lasts for 5 years.

Most consumers do not own an orbital polisher nor to the have the desire to spend hours detailing thier cars in order to remove the slightest imperfections.

I have been using Detailer, Consumer and professional products for years. I love the economy of the Detailer line, the polishes in the Professional line that work so well with an orbital, and some of the Consumer line products like Nxt Tech Wax, Nxt Spray Wax, Nxt Cockpit Detailer, Nxt Car Wash, etc.

I wouldn't take Consumer report's recommendations on toilet paper.
