  • How much longer are the backing plates backordered?

About the last day of April or so I emailed customer service about a faulty backing plate; no pads I have will stick to it. They stated in reply email that one would be sent right out. After two weeks of not receiving it I called and was told, "that's on backorder".

Nice that I was told, last I heard was "it will be sent right out to you".

I've now heard from them, (two weeks later and running), that they are backordered and no one has a date for coming 'instock', much less waiting for UPS to deliver them once shipped.

Can anyone confirm what the status is with these? I'm effectively down for the count here since every pad I have will fly off the PC with a setting of 3 or more.

I refuse to go to a local body shop supply store and pay them $29.95 for some generic velcro plate when I've already bought from Megs. They have also told me they cannot reimburse in this case, although they have offered a couple of free items for the delay. That's nice and all, since I'm down and out right now I still can't really use them either.

    Help?

I read your message and was curious about a couple things. Are the pads Meguiar's pads? If so how old are they? The only time I have heard or experienced a pad flying off a machine is if the machine is ran while it is off the paint or the pad is very aged or used and the velcro is worn out.

Keep in mind that speed is not vital to the quality of your results with a P/C Dual action polisher. I would not recommend running that machine any higher then 4. I use mine at 3 for everything.

They are hoping to have the backing plates in by the end of the week. I will check on this Thursday to confirm. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the delay with this item.

    Regards,

    Tom

I've had the same problem, the velcro comes off the backing pad and the pad comes completely off the PC, I glued the velcro back on with an entire tube off super glue, haven't tried it yet, so we'll see

Lets get you out the new backing plate to you and see if this corrects what is happening.

Do me a favor, if you have not heard back from me by Thursday, send me a P/M on this...

        Thanks,

        Tom

          Hi Tom,

Let me clarifiy on my post a bit.. the velcro on the back of the pads is fine; it is *not* separating from the foam.. Rather what has happened is the backing plate has lost the ability to hold onto these pads.

They are Megs pads, 8006 and 9006, 2 and 1 respectively. They can be peeled from the backing plate with 2 fingers; there is virtually no hold whatsoever. I took these same pads to a local auto supply store with a 3m hookit backing plate and the pads stuck to the plate like there was no tomorrow.

From seeing that I can with security say that the pads are fine and the velcro on the pads is fine, it is the backing plate that has lost the ability to hold. Now, ask me what could have happened to the 'hook' part of the megs backing plate? No idea. Maybe some of the hooks have broken off? Don't know. The pads and plate have been used for about 3 cars total.

          thank you
          Marc

That problem is not what I'm seeing, it appears to be the backing plate losing the ability to 'grip'.. See my post above to Tom.
