What's with all the different products... naming, what are the differences?

So, I already have tried some products, and do know what they do, but most of them still confuses me.

For example, washes:

Meguiar's Ultimate Wash & Wax
NXT Generation

Nxt Wash is a soap, with some ingrediants to help if you have hard water.

Ultimate Wash and Wax is a wash that also leaves wax behind on the surface.

But really, thats an extremely broad question, cant just explain every product. Perhaps you can explain more about what you are working on, trying to do, and we can say what to focus on.

Did not know that.. But the water is very hard here; soap foam dissipates within a couple minutes and leaves spots that will burn into the paint if not wiped off immediately - so are you saying this soap will help specifically with these two problems??

My water is ok... cant really compare if it works. But that is the idea.
