  • Fact or fiction QD

I attended a car club meeting last night. As always we gather around the cars at some point and check who has got the painted surfaces looking the best. A statement was made that Quick Detail sprays remove the wax that is on the car and that lead to someone stating that QD actually hardened any treatment that was already on the car. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

      FICTION !!!

I believe both of those statements would be false. The general idea of a quick detail spray is to safely remove any light dust or dirt before it has time to bond to the surface of the paint.

As far as quick detailing sprays go they do not remove wax from the vehicle. They are actually engineered to prolong the life of the wax by keeping the surface clean and enhancing its gloss to give it that deep and look.

Quick detail sprays hardening the wax? ...NO... While it may not harden the wax, it will help prolong the wax's life by keeping the surface clean and corrosion free. Hope this helps clear things up for you. Basically a quick detail spray is just that, a mist on wipe off product to give it that just detailed look.

The basic intent of almost any QD spray is the safe removal of light dust and fingerprint smudges. Whether or not the product adds anything beyond that will vary greatly from product to product. But any decent QD spray is not going to remove your wax in and of itself. Now, if you spray your car down every day and wipe it aggressively with a cotton terry cloth towel, you may well speed up the degradation of your wax, but most of that will occur due to the aggressiveness of the towel, not the QD itself. And don't let anyone over think this and claim that if rain can shorten the lifespan of a wax then why not a QD spray. Prolonged heavy rain will do that, but a light mist of rain won't. And a light mist is all you're using with a QD spray.

This is interesting, and almost accurate, depending on the QD being used. We don't know of any that will actually "harden" any existing product on the car, but a QD could "supplement" an existing wax or sealant. Now, "harden" may have simply been a misused term by whoever said it, but that carries the connotation of actually interacting with an existing treatment and somehow strengthening it. And that just isn't happening. But..... if that QD spray contains something that sticks around on the surface, like a durable polymer (hello, UQD/M135) then it certainly can "supplement" the existing protection. And Ultimate Quik Wax takes that concept a big step forward as the polymers in it are very durable.

Thank you all for the input. These were the words used in the chat. Perhaps a bad choice of wording. I will report back to the group and explain the facts.
