Meguiar's Quik Tips Video Series - Removing Swirls
NOTE: Since this video was produced we have added Ultimate Polish to our lineup. Everything you see in this video and the rest of the post can be done with Ultimate Polish, too, using the same techniques. Keep in mind, however, that Ultimate Polish is a very light duty cleaner/polish and is most commonly used following an application of Ultimate Compound. Used in this was, Ultimate Polish will enhance the gloss of any finish, but used on it's own it can remove very light swirls from your paint finish.
After viewing the video clip you can scroll down for a step by step refresher, complete with still images shot during the filming of the video.
Please keep in mind that this video, and the others in the series, are not designed to be definitive how to guides but rather, as the name implies, Quik Tips that address the most common questions and mistakes associated with each topic.
Regardless of whether or not you’re a car guy, swirl marks are a problem for everyone. Lets face it, there’s nothing attractive about a car with swirls. They can be isolated or widespread and removing them is crucial to getting your car looking it's absolute best.

To remove swirls Meguiar's developed Ultimate Compound and SwirlX swirl remover - both are quick yet safe solutions for use by hand, orbital buffer, or even our G110v2 Dual Action Polisher.
Begin by washing and drying your car thoroughly and, if needed, clay your car using our Smooth Surface Clay Kit.
If you are working by hand, apply either Ultimate Compound or SwirlX swirl remover with a foam applicator and work one section at a time with overlapping strokes.

There is no need to let either of these products dry; simply wipe them off using our Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel, turning to a clean section for your final wipe.

If you are using our Dual Action Polisher we recommend using our yellow W8207 Soft Buff 2.0 Foam Polishing Pad. Simply attach the foam polishing pad and set the speed to approximately 4.5 - 5. Apply Ultimate Compound or SwirlX directly to the pad and place the pad flat on the paint.

Turn the machine on and begin buffing with moderate pressure in an overlapping pattern while keeping the pad flat against the paint at all times. Work a small section at a time, applying additional SwirlX as needed until all swirls have been removed.

Remove the product residue using our Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel.

There you have it, a swirl free finish ready for your favorite Meguiar's polish or wax. (We've only corrected the bottom half of the panel in the image below in order to show a distinct before/after difference)
