  • Removing swirls by hand - which products to use?

    Hello friends,

I have recently joined here and I'm new to car detailing work so I need some advice. I have recently bought a used car (2009 Honda City) which has never been polished or waxed before. I have used some local waxes but its kinda ok (Less then a week of durability). Now wanna use Meguiar's products to make my car swirl-free, shiny and protected.

Actually I'm from India and limited Meguiar's products are available here. UC, UP, Black Wax, White Wax, Nxt Tech 2.0 Paste, Hi Tech Yellow Liquid wax, Scratch X 2.0 & etc but costs twice.

There are swirl marks on my car body (Entire car I believe) and I have posted a snap below that is taken from hood. Is it really possible to fix these swirl marks? If so which products is best to try? I will be doing by hand though I don't have experience with any premium products. If its not worth or effective by doing in hand then I will ignore and proceed to next steps. I have plan to try from least aggressive products one by one. Black wax -> UP -> Scratch X 2.0. Will that workout or should I try Scratch X 2.0 directly? or else UC?

Swirls are not visible unless seen near to sun reflection.

I have queries about next steps (polishing and waxing) but I'm gonna use or make different thread since this isn't the right topic to ask.

    Thanks...
    Best Regards

Re: Tips for removing swirls by hand with SMA Technology

Working by hand, I would just go straight to UC for that. Unless you already have the other milder products, then by all means try them on a test spot first.

btw what's that on your hood?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

No I don't have any. Should buy them now.

Won't the UC be more aggressive product to try? Will the Scratch X 2.0 be better to try first? I have also heard Honda Cars have soft paint.

Lol those are flowers! Those are the snaps that I took when I first bought the vehicle.

        First off, welcome to MOL!

Second, we've moved your posts and Davey's response to their own dedicated thread as this has the makings of a great discussion.

As for actually getting to work on this car, you certainly have the right products available to you in India to make the correction you're looking for. The swirls look pretty severe and we would have no hesitation to start with Ultimate Compound, especially when working by hand. But you need to be careful about how you apply UC by hand, especially if this car does have soft paint. It's very easy to create pressure point marring when working by hand on soft paint, so you might want to read through this article before starting.

Yes, the UC is more aggressive than ScratchX 2.0.

If you really want to test the least aggressive product first (that is, after all what you're supposed to do) then try ScratchX 2.0 first.

Looking at the photos though, I'm tipping this is a job for UC.

            Hello,

Thanks for making a thread Mr Stoops. I think now I can ask little queries about polishing and waxing here.

And thanks for the supportive info. Will look into that link.

Actually I was wrong about Ultimate Compound availability here. I don't see it anyway for direct online purchase but there are few re sellers, need to ask them if they have stock of it. Otherwise ScratchX 2.0 is the only choice as of now. :|

As of polishing and waxing, let me know which is the best way to go:

UC or ScratchX 2.0 (depending upon stock)
            UP
            NXT 2.0

            Or
UC or ScratchX 2.0 (depending upon stock)
            Black Wax

I heard black wax has cleaners, polishes and waxes. Can it be used black wax instead of UP + NXT TECH 2.0?

            Thanks...
            Best Regards

Yeah, will see if I can UC. I thought it was available but couldn't find it now. :/

            Thanks...

              ^^ This would be best.

But your second option is still ok if you don't have time or don't want to go to the extra effort.

I have time as well as effort but spending on many products right way is lil difficult. :P

So as of now I thought to buy Black Wax instead UP + NXT TECH 2.0.

Is ultimate wax available in your area?

Unfortunately not even there is a name of it here.

NXT TECH 2.0 I can get is a paste version. No liquid version either.

Clay-UC-UP-Ultimate Wax is the best option. Ideally, you should start with that and maintain with proper car wash, quick detailer and spray wax.

Then, for "regular" or quick detail jobs, a cleaner wax (Black or white wax) followed by Ultimate Wax or NXT 2.0 should do well. White wax might even work better for your car if you want more cleaners for those swirls, Black wax will also work, but from a polishing oils standpoint. Those polishing oils will add more depth, wet look and conceal some of those lighter swirls.
