  • white film/ haze help

Working on a test piece trying to get gloss black finish
For paint i used rustoleum black lacquer ( spray can)

I sanded the final coat with 1500 grit followed by scratch x
After a few applications the shine came back and scratches removed

I used a yellow applicator pad and micro fiber cloth to remove
I noticed in the light a slight white haze/ film that i wan not able to remove using the micro fiber
I next tried using an old t shirt on a small spot and it actually removed the haze to my surprise.
Not sure what the shirt is made of since the tags are gone but i know its not 100% cotton because its one of those shirts with a lot of stretch to it
I am trying to figure out what kind of rag to buy to remove the rest of the haze.
If you look at the photo where my fingers are on the right side you will see a small strip with no haze/ film

Love your pic, I am a big Steelers fan as well, not the best start but I am happy after last nights game, especially the running game!
Anyway try this one: it is the first photo "NEW test haze"

Yeah, though not sure if the Bengals are the best test...

I think I see more haze in the second/thrid pics?

              Re: white film/ haze help

The 2nd and 3rd pic are of different pieces, I have made 5 different test pieces so far, trying out different paints, combinations some with & without clear, different sanding grits ect....
The piece in question is in the first pic only "NEW test haze" I will try and take a better pic tomorrow using my camera instead of my phone.

So far this test piece has come out the best and I will be satisfied once I remove the haze. Then I just have to duplicate it onto what I actually want to paint.

              Thanks again

                Re: white film/ haze help

The photo is very dark, so we can't really make anything out on it. But based on the information you provided, your pad and polish combination is not abrasive enough to remove 1500 grit sanding scratches. That combination applied by machine would get more cut, but mostly likely sanding marks will remain. Based on my experience, I would have to use a Rotary or DA with M105, followed by a 2nd step to leave a perfect finish.

                    Re: white film/ haze help

Well, if you are sure it is a product haze, you can always try a spritz of some quick detailer type product if needed.

But yeah, seeing the lower pics had me thinking it was more of a fine swirl mark haze left behind, not so much a product residue.
