Hey Meguiar's fans,
What is the proper and most effective method of using M105 and M205 by hand? Should I work them both the same or differently?
My thinking is to work M105 vigorously in a back and forth motion overlapping by 50%, with a final, lighter working in a circular motion, and to work 205 perpendicular to the direction I worked M105, also finishing with a circular motion. Also, when singling out scratches, should they be worked parallel or perpendicular? How about pads? If I use, say, a terry pad with M105 and it finishes out well, should I use a foam pad for M205? Any pointers or tips are appreciated.
I recently acquired a BLACK 1998 Mercedes C230, one owner, always garaged, serviced at the dealer, etc., with only 74,000 miles, after scouring the market for weeks. The car is in great shape, but there are swirls and minor clear coat scratches, mostly only visible when in the sun.
I first tried the newer rubbing/polishing compound duo by Meguiar's and those products did improve the paint, mostly in regards to clarity and depth of color, but didn't really make a dent in the minor paint defects. I now have M105, M205 and M7 sitting in the garage awaiting use, as well as the consumer clay bar package.
I'm glad to have this forum. It's given me so much knowledge I didn't have before, such as the fact some cars (Mercedes, in my case) have incredibly hard paint.
