hi hope someone can help I own a black ford c-max and my bonnet has light scratches on it now I was going to wash, clay, then ultimate compound or scratch x 2.0 not shure which one to go for then after that I will cleanse the paint work then polish is that the right metod or am i going wrong ?? as I dont want to make a mess of the paint work as its only 1 year old car hope someone can put me in the right direction.

Would i use the compound or the scratch x 2.0 only on the scratch or on the whole of the bonnet as I dont know ??

    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. Clean - I would look at Ultimate Compound for a strong cleaner, SwirlX or Ultimate Polish for a mild cleaner. Try the mild one first, if it doesnt remove the swirl/scratch, go to the stronger one. You can remove the scratch, then go over everything with the milder cleaner to even it out.
    4. Polish- Optional, not really deeded with Ultimate Polish. But something like Deep Crystal Polish would fit here.
    5. Wax
    6. Wax

In most cases Ultimate Compound will leave your paint in shape which allows to just apply a coat of protection/ wax. Ultimate Compound is an aggressive paint cleaner/ compound.

Because your paint is black you're gonna benefit from performing a polishing step. Ultimate Polish, Deep Crystal Polish or M07 Show Car Glaze will add extra gloss to your paint. On dark colors (especially black) it looks really nice and rich. Worth extra work big time.

Then you apply Tech Wax 2.0 and your vehicle should be in show car shape.

              Re: paints work help

You're getting good advice here, Kevin, but let's see if we can't clarify a couple of things for you as we see you're now also looking for some confirmation in another thread.

Wash and dry the car first - Gold Class, NXT Wash, it really doesn't matter at this point (Gold Class is probably easier to source though).

Once that's done it's time to evaluate the entire finish - touch it, run your bare hand over the paint. If it feels rough to the touch then claying is needed. If it feels literally as smooth as glass, then claying isn't going to gain you anything.

Now visually inspect it in direct sunlight. You're looking for fine swirls and scratches, etchings, etc. You've mentioned having some of these defects on the bonnet, but is that the ONLY area that's effected? If so, then you don't need to do any defect correction on the rest of the car. But we suspect that if you've got some defects on the bonnet, the rest of the car probably does too. Just inspect it very closely, from different angles, and in direct light.

Now comes the product selection. Ultimate Compound is a great choice for initial defect correction, and depending on how the paint responds it may be all you need to finish the job and arrive at a point where you're ready to wax. What you want to do is apply it in small areas at a time - no more than 25cm x 25cm, and work it until it's just a thin film on the surface, then wipe it off. Do this to one spot first and then pull the car back out into direct sunlight to evaluate your progress. This is your test spot and it will tell you if you're accomplishing your goal, just getting close, or if you need to do something completely different. If this process has removed, for example, half the defects then you're on the right track and may just need to do a second pass with the same product. If the process removes all the defects and the paint looks clear and glossy, perfect. Do the same process to the whole car and then wax. But, if the process is removing the defects but it's also leaving the paint looking a bit hazy or not as clear and glossy as you want, then a follow up with a less aggressive product may be called for. This might include SwirlX, Ultimate Polish, M07 Show Car Glaze, or the Auto Glym Hi Def Cleanser or Poorboys Black Hole if you prefer. That's going to be something that only you can determine after you've done the first step. But do that test spot first rather than just jumping in and doing the whole car before evaluating your work. Avoid surprises!!!!

When all that is done, a very thin application of NXT Tech Wax 2.0, allowed to dry fully before wipe off, will finish you off very nicely.
