  • Ultimate Quick Wax problem

So I've been using Meguiar Ultimate Quick wax for a couple months now and lately it seems when I spray it on then wipe it off with a micro fiber its leaving this dull smudgy looking residue..makes it blotchy looking. Thing is after i spray then wipe those spots that are left i'll rub pretty hard on and wont come up.

Anyone seen this before? I've tried doing it in different temperatures and different lighting (sunlight/shade) and still get the same issue. If I pull out the pc and buff the blotchy areas it comes up but dont really want to resort to that every time i use it since its supposed to be a quick substitute when a full wax isn't possible.

Just wondering if anyone has run into this and has an idea what's up.

If it matters..my paint is BB.

    Thanks

Try using less, I've never had this problem but it seems that your using too much per spot .... and shake the bottle every time

Hmm..didn't think i was using much. I'm literally spraying from about 6 inches away in a sweeping mostion to mist it on. I will give less a try though. Hell I'll give anything a try to avoid the blotchy spots...thx

Very lightly mist product. I like using 2 microfibers. 1 To work the product, then the second one to "buff" if you will.

          I spray the cloth.

Keep your cloth damp, dont keep flipping the cloth to a dry side.

OK..I'll give those ideas a shot. I usually do use two towels while doing this and continually flip the one i'm wiping it on with. I havent yet tried though spraying the towel first. Am i supposed to let this dry at all or spray on wipe off like detail spray? Currently i spray on and wipe right off.

I mist it on, then use a MF pad (one side only) to work it in. I Then go back over with a couple MF towels, one to initially wipe it clear and another (dry one) for final buff.

Yes be sure to shake it often.

If you spray the cloth and wipe, your coating should be very thin, very hard to see. You can wipe it around a bit, then remove right away (the extra wiping just about removes it all), however I apply to the car, then go back around with a dry cloth.

I think you'll find letting that dampening the cloth, and then just keeping it damp will help a lot as far as keeping things thin and even.

You must have a dark color car. I have the same problem with my black color car, but on my silver car the UQW works great!

I would suggest using a wiping towel and a drying towel. Spray UQW on the car, spread with your wiping towel and then wipe dry with your drying towel.

Go ahead and try doing half of a panel as opposed to a whole panel when applying. See if that makes any difference. It could be that the UQW is drying while on your paint before you have had a chance to wipe it dry, and your dark color is making it apparent.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                    Remove swirls my friends.

If you are pressing/rubbing pretty hard, and the residue is not coming off, then it sounds as if the product is hardening, and thus bonding to the paint before you are able to remove the excess, hence the residue you are seeing.

Try using two mf's, one being very damp, and one dry. Even if you have two, or 20 clean, dry mf's, the stuff is dryed and bonded to the paint, and you would have to exert much downforce (thus risking scratching the paint) to remove residual chemical. The damp mf could be damp with instant detailer, or even water. The point is, the moisture reactivates the dryed chemical residue allowing it to be removed. So, with the damp mf in one hand, and a clean, dry mf in the other, go over said trouble area first with the damp mf, then immediately hit it with the dry mf. I've done this many, many times and it works.

The temp while you were working may have been too hot, or you may have applied this particular product too thick. I've had this happen with instant detailer, and used a very damp mf to remove the residue, (immediately followed with a clean, dry mf) and have also used various types of wax to remove the instant detailer residue.

Some of these products can be a little tricky sometimes.

I used to have a similar issue when I started using UQW but I quickly sorted it out. Now I use two techniques:
                        1) spray directly on a panel and wipe off immediately - I use 1-2 sprays per panel,
                        2) apply with a moist MF towel and wipe off immediately with the second, dry MF.
I noticed that UQW has a tendency to leave smears if you apply too much, leave to dry for too long or already have a significant build up of wax on the paint.
