  • Ultimate Compound not working for me

So I was detailing a car and got to the third step of paint cleaning. I had already washed twice and clayed the entire car. So i took out the UC and put it on a microfiber applicator pad and applied it to the surface. Then immediately, I buffed it into the paint until it was almost gone. I then took a Microfiber towel and wiped it off. After inspecting the paint to see if it worked, it didn't remove any of the scratches but it even made NEW ones! I don't really know what I did wrong. I tried to buy a foam applicator pad but O'Reaily, Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts didn't have any. What could the problem be?

The car was a silver Toyota Celica. You guys need any more info?

It may well be a case where Ultimate Compound is too aggressive for the paint. Read through this article as it may give you some insight into dealing with delicate paint and how you can correct some hazing issues with aggressive paint cleaners. That article discusses other products as very worthwhile options to UC when dealing with delicate as well.

      Hi ADPGT,

You might also be using too little product or working it too long. Ultimate Compound should still be "wet" when you remove it with a microfiber cloth. If you work it until the product is dry or almost dry then you risk instilling scratches with the applicator itself. Checkout page two of this thread, where I responded to someone else having problems using Ultimate Compound: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/sho...092#post410092
