  • First real detail ever!

Well I am very new to detailing, so i have been asking a couple experienced friends and have looked on the internet/this forum for a short time. What i have accumulated from friends for advice are these steps:
    1. Hand soap the car with dish soap (heard this will remove what wax would be there)
    2. Meguiars Clay bar kit
    3. Ultimate Compound (I have 'spider webbing' going on, and lots of scratches. I was told this will remove them)
    4. Meguiars #7 (Older gent with car show experience told me to use this)
    5. I was kind of between Gold Class wax, and number #26 (People have said good things about both)

Now for the questions.. Can i use the little foam applicators circles for step 3 through 5? With the waxing, will i want to 1 or 2 coats? Also if i do more than one coat, do i let the wax sit for about 15 minutes, and just start waxing over the 'cured' wax? or do i need to remove the wax and then apply another coat? Thanks guys!

    Re: First real detail ever!

No need for step one... just use a good soap like Gold Class.

Q1. Yes, the round yellow foam ones.

Q2. 2 thin coats are best.

Q3. Apply, remove, wait, apply remove. Waiting 15 minutes in between is good... 12 hours is best, so somewhere in there.

So do you think the #7 is needed? I am just trying to make the car look great and try to maintain over the summer months. I was thinking Gold Class wax, just because my autoparts store have it on hands. Thanks for all the info!

Well, it is optional, but you can do it. For your first time, you may find the Deep Crystal Polish a bit easier to work with.

make sure you do a little search on how to properly use #7 and methods of application/removal. Don't use too much of it either. Good luck
