  • Break dust rusted EVERYWHERE help please :(

okay so my front driver side caliper on my 07 WRX started pinching a few weeks ago and very quickly wore through the pad and rotor break material (full time engineering student with no time or money and no other ride.

I stopped driving on it as quickly as I could get an alternative method of transportation worked out (just started walking....6-12 miles per day round trip for school...ughhh)

I ordered new breaks and they took a good two weeks to get to me and they are now installed.

    Anyway, long story short:

There is rust dust deposited ALL OVER my car(mainly driverside/trunk). Its essentially like break dust except turned into rust from driving on a beat rotor/pads and a pinching caliper(i don't want to hear it please. i know i fail)

Anyway I need to find a way to get it off without destroying my paint. Its caked on my enkie aswell but I'm less worried about that than my body.

Any ideas CC&D?? I went to a flagship (self wash place) and did high pressure soap/water wash and it didn't do anything at all except got some of the caked rust on the rim to chip off.

    Please help!!!

I'm thinking about trying a claybar and if that fails then a polish...I'm just really trying to get it off without rubbing it into my paint and having abraision marks all over

Re: Break dust rusted EVERYWHERE help please

First off, welcome to MOL. It looks like you copied and pasted your post on the NASIOC forum and it threw some really crazy code into our forum, so we cleaned that up for you.

As for your issue, a picture would help, but it sounds like you should wash the vehicle thoroughly and then use a clay bar on the effected body panels. Proceed slowly, and monitor the clay very closely as you go.

Your wheels can then be cleaned initially with Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner and a wheel brush, making sure to work on just one wheel at a time from start to finish. You can clay the wheel also, after removing the bulk of surface deposits with the wheel cleaner and brush.

awesome! thanks i'll be sure to try this.

To be honest though I have never used a clay bar so when you say monitor it very closely what do you mean? I'm assuming it something along the lines of as it takes off the rust it will be embedded in the clay and not to rub down the car with the contaminated clay as it will scratch?

what products do you recommend exactly?
i'll try and get a picture posted up tomorrow of the damage

      Thanks for the advice!

Be sure to clay the wheels last. You probably dont want t ouse clay from the wheels up on the paint.

Also, you can clay the glass while doing the paint.

And use a lot of lubrication, you may want an extra bottle of QD to be real safe.
