  • Clay using GC/NXT carwash as lubricants?

Most people here at MOL recommends of using QD or UQD used only as lubricants. Just wondering... can I use GC/NXT carwash shampoo+destiled water as claying lubricants? Are there any benefit of using QD or UQD as claying lubricants compared using car wash shampoo?

    Thanks!

The shampoos can cause the clay to break down / fall apart.

As stated above, we do recommend using QD as a clay lubricant to ensure the full life of the clay. UQD is not really recommended because it is so slick. In addition, you are kind of wasting away the true properties of UQD if using it as a clay lub

However, we also know that many detailers who are going through clay quickly because the vehicles are soooo bad and they do so many vehicles, that they do clay a car during the "car washing" portion. That means they are using the car wash as a lub. While it does work for them, what needs to be kept in in mind is the clay will be so full of contaminants quickly that it will need to be thrown away before the car wash deteriorates it.

So, for the average consumer /enthusiasts who is trying to reuse their clay and keep it for while, the QD is the best choice

        Hope that make sense

          Quik Detailer(not UQD) is perfect.

I can't figure out why people look for substitutes? at the risk of doing damage.

I always buy the kit, simply because I always get a bottle of QD with it.

The soap is actually a fine lubricant as long as you dont use too little. The only problem is breaking down the clay.

              I didn't know that.

The QD works.I've never tried anything else.

As long as they do the job.

Thank you all for your response, i will go get myself a bottle of QD. Clay bar here in my country is quite expensive. 50gr pack cost around USD 18.

I actually highly recommend using GC shampoo and water for clay lube. I find that as long as you work it carefully, it doesn't break down for me. Make sure you use plenty of the shampoo though.

Another problem with using soap could be that the claybar gets so slippery that you might drop it on the ground...
