  • Scratched my paint with SwirlX!!!

About a month ago, i tried swirlX for the first time. I tried it on a small area first, and loved the results I got so i pushed forward to the whole car! After a wash with Gold class, clay bar with quik detailer, i proceeded to work some scratchX to the few scratches i wanted gone. Then I worked the swirlX over the whole car basically to remove the haze and halograms i have acquired over the past 2 years. The rest of the car faired pretty well, but the hood came out awful. Worse that when i started. I certainly will not blame the product, I am sure it was my technique a the time doing so by hand. SO what is the next step? Basically what I have is round pad marks all over the hood and some places on the car. Was I pressing to hard? I am saving my pennies for a polisher but for now do it by hand. What do I do now? I am very anal about my cars and it kills me everytime I see it. Car is a 2007 Black Chevrolet HHR.

Also, i debadged the car recently, thinking it would be as easy as my 95 Z28 was..wrong. Even two years old the residue is so bad, it will nto come off. I got the badges off, carefully razor bladed the gunk off, and went with my tried and true goo-gone to remove the residual. DIDNT WORK! Anybody have any ideas on how to get this adhesive off my car?

    Thanks for the help!

What you are describing may be the pressure from the pressure points of your fingers. Sometimes when you concentrate a lot of force on a foam pad it will push marks into the paint where your finger tips were.

To correct this you will want to go over the area again with less pressure and try circular motions rather than straight lines. Speeding up the speed of your hand moving sometimes helps to reduce concentrated pressure, too.

As for the residue you may want to try WD-40. Sometimes really old emblem adhesive can be darn near impossible to remove without resorting to really dangerous paint thinner type products.

3M makes a product that is like a giant eraser that goes on a drill and it rubs the residue off. You may want to look into one of those.
