  • Got rid of the swirls & holograms but ?

On my freshly painted car I had holograms and swirls galore on only the hood. Not sure why but may have been due to a worn finishing pad, used on the rotary buffer. Color is bright red, 1985 Pontiac Fiero.

Ok. I first tried Swirl X and it improved the condition but did not solve it. Then I tried some Scratch X and it made things better still but not good enough. EDIT (4-30) : Finally I used Ultimate Compound and got the majority of the swirls out.

I am working this by hand, not a real hard job but it would be nice to have a G110, but I have really busted the budget lately and I am holding off.

Now the question is should I go back and do the hood again with Swirl X?

The paint is 3 weeks old, so I cannot wax it yet.

Was it you with the buffer, or the shop buffed it out?

The next step up from Scratch 2.0 would be Ultimate Compound.

You can try a test spot with ScratchX followed by SwirlX, nothing wrong with trying.

It's a simple system that automatically moderates potential problems posts (pictures fall in that category) to avoid spam or inappropriate content from being posted on the forum.

Next time just hang tight and like the message stated, a moderator will approve the message when they get to it

thanks Mark, I got to edit out one of these images no need for two of the same.

Well, cannot edit the image out, code does not show. Sorry for this.

If your working by hand then SwirlX and ScratchX 2.0 would be fine choices. If those products dont give the result your looking for then you could step it up to Ultimate Compound.

Make sure you do a test spot with whatever product you end up using.

I should not post late in the day.
I did use Ultimate Compound and that is what corrected the major portion of the holograms. I neglected to put this in my first post.

Again all products applied by hand.
So would it be worthwhile to go back with an application of Swirl X?

If the overall finish quality of the paint after UC looks great then you can stop at this point until the 30 days are up and it's safe to seal the paint with a wax or paint sealant.

How does the overall finish quality look?

Is it a little smudgy or hazy anywhere? If so, the re-polish all the paint by hand with a clean, foam applicator pad using SwirlX, this should create a more uniform appearance until it's time for wax.

No smudges or haz anywhere. The finish looks bright and reflects a clear image of my face when looking down into it, there is good depth. It does look wet.

However there still are some minor swirls and some minor holograms, but again 90% less than before I began. If I can improve it I am willing to put in the effort.

Here in Arizona the sun is bright so if you got holograms you will see them!
