  • What product?

On my Nitro I just noticed I have some FAINT swirls that you can't see unless your head is laying on the hood in direct sunlight. Even then you can't really see them at first. I was wondering what polish I would need. The scratchx, step 2, or something from the professional line. I plan on doing it by hand.

That's more than faint, that's extreme.

"When it comes to removing swirls and creating a swirl free finish, the human hand can never compete against the machine"

If the swirls are faint like you say, then you might need to step up to machine polishing to remove them. Compared to what your Nitro cost, getting into machine polishing doesn't even compare especially if you expectations are for a show car finish. Have you considered making the jump to a G110 to reach your high expectations?

Other than that maybe try ScratchX or Deep Crystal Paint cleaner and follow this with a coat of your favorite wax.

I know working by machine is faster but there are a couple of reasons I work by hand. I enjoy the satisfaction of accomplishing my results with just pure elbow grease and also because my Wife gives me the "look" when I ask to buy a PC.

        Understood.

If you're trying to remove faint swirls often times a good coat of wax will mask them and accomplish the same goal. Faint swirls are always going to be a problem with clear coat paints as they show up so easily to your eyes.

If your truck is a daily driver then it's going to be even harder to maintain a 100% swirl free finish. It can be done but it really comes down to polishing out all the swirls and then keeping a fresh coat of wax on the paint often, key word being often.

Trying to remove fain swirls by hand can be done with ScratchX, Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and M105 Ultra Cut Compound, if you have one of these then give it a try to a small section and inspect your results.

If it looks good then apply a pure polish and a wax or just a wax, as Meguiar's always states that applying a pure polish is an optional step.

Make sure everything is clean, that is the surface, your applicator pad, your wiping cloth and even your hands and use good technique.

When trying to remove faint swirls, you really have to bring everything up a notch because the swirls are so shallow that removing paint around them without leaving fine or shallow swirls in the process is an art forum, not a mechanical process, thus the recommendation to work by machine as when you work by hand you have very defined pressure points from your finger tips.

So try a paint cleaner, whatever you have and if you don't have one then start with ScratchX and a foam wax applicator pad.

You can try getting rid of minor swirls with Meguiars M80, M80 does a good job.

Just tell your wife that if you get a PC, it will decrease the time you spend working on your car and (theoretically) increase the time that you could spend with her.

He's working by hand so there are better options for working out 'faint' swirls by hand than M80 Speed Glaze.

ScratchX by hand with a foam wax applicator pad and some very gentle rubbing might do the trick, when it comes to faint swirls technique starts to become as important if not more important than product and application material choice.

Also depends upon how polishable this paint is, some paints are easy to work on while some paints are very difficult to work on, you just don't know until you go out into your garage and actually start to work on the car's paint.

It is my wife's daily driver, and I do wash it usually every week unless it is really nice weather and I try to give it a wax at least once a month. Up until this point my process has never included a polish as the paint never needed it before. Like I said you can't see them and I just want to add something that to get it perfect occasionally when I do a complete thorough detail.

The bad thing is I love to detail so a PC probably wouldn't be the best thing for me to spend less time detailing.

Thanks for the help I think I am going to give some scratchx a try. I even tried taking a picture and couldn't capture the swirls so I may just leave it alone. I just don't know yet.

                  I'm confused?

Are you two forum members the same person?

If so that's against the forum rules and reason to be banned instantly.

Just looked up both accounts and found both accounts are yours.

Here's the forum rules which by the way are the same for all honest and respectable forums on the Internet, it's not like we expect anything any other forum expects but we don't allow multiple accounts for one person. We do expect the best out of people and that means not having and posting under two anonymous accounts. It makes you look bad.

                    Forum Rules

                    10. Only one account per member! The only conceivable reason for multiple accounts, would be for fraudulent activity. You will be banned for this action immediately.

Justice for Breaking the Rules - Color Code:
We are human and we all make mistakes, however, there will be consequences for your actions as follows:

Blue = Polite warning via email to remind you of the rules.
Green = E-mail warning and possible 1 to 7 day suspension.
Red = You will have banned yourself immediately with little or no warning.

Please explain to myself and our forum community why you're posting under two forum accounts.

Yeah I changed from Cowboy Truckn because I changed my name on all my forums to Hemi Mopar. Is there a way to close one? I can't figure out how.

Okay I'll get in contact... I want cowboytruckn closed. I was logged into my other forums under that one and closed them and then I came over here to close it and couldn't and I posted under it. I don't plan on using it.

I got the notice. Mike is out of the office today, so I will e-mail him and let him know what is going on. He will likely handle this tonight or tomorrow.
