  • How-to: Shawn T.'s method of using a Waterless Car Wash

Alright, so with all of the recent talk about waterless car washes and many different companies offering their own waterless wash (including Meguiars), I wanted to show my technique.

    And a little before/after.......

    Thanks for looking! Any questions?

Meguiar's has a waterless wash product? What is it? As far as I know, they don't have any rinseless or waterless washes.

Do you think that the waterless wash really helps not to induct swirls at all?

      Very nice videos, Shawn.

I'm sold. This stuff really works well and easy.

Is it okay to use Tire Shine to clean wheels and shine tires?
Is Aquanil-X better than Tire Shine with cleaning wheels?

Meguiar's offers Waterless Car Wash System on Australian market when water restrictions are in effect.
        It contains:
        - car body duster,
        - Last Touch Spray Detailer as Waterless Spray Detailer,
        - Supreme Shine microfiber towels.

          Thanks for the info Greg!

Yikes they're using Last Touch? I'd be afraid to use that as a waterless wash. It's just a quick detailer...

            Shawn,

How many towels do you use to do a waterless wash for the whole car? I'm assuming that the first pass towel gets flipped or folded over when you do the next panel right? Do you always change to a clean side for each panel?

Also, do you toss the MF that you used for the wheels and tires after using it? It's pretty dirty and I'm sure that the stain will remain there even after you wash the blue MF towel.

            Thanks!

As long as cars are not super dirty it should work okay.

I agree... As far as i know, quick detailers are supposed to be used for very light dust only. I don't think that method is applicable in Shawn's car where it had been rained upon. Even for waterless, I wouldn't dare do that with caked in dirt/mud.. I'd only use it for dust.

I do believe that when proper technique is used, waterless wash products do not induce swirls.

Yes, Tire Shine can be used to clean and shine tires and clean wheels. I prefer using the Aquanil-X right now though. But, when the wheels are very dirty, I hit them first with APC+.

Last Touch is actually quite good at being used as a waterless wash. It does a pretty good job when I tried it.

The section of the towel is no longer used. I flip the towel over and use a clean section. Each section gets at least one clean section of the towel and sometimes 2. They always come out clean when I was them and I don't have any stains on any of them.

I use separate microfibers for the wheels that never touch the paint.

Caked on mud is the limit of the waterless wash. Do not use it on caked on mud or else you will be sorry. I would hose that off first if it's really heavy. But, if it is light mud then there is a rinseless product capable of cleaning it: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47694.

While I do not use this wash method often ( once in a while) I think its nice that you have a system down, Shawn.

The car looks really nice & as it seems your finding your own way with your own products, process, & procedures.

                      Keep up the good work.

Cool system Shawn. I like using ONR as my "waterless wash" because I feel that these spray on waterless washes are no different than using QD to wash your car.

But hey, if it works for you, you get good results, and you like it, then all the more power to you!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                          I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                          Remove swirls my friends.

Might I ask why do you use Wash + wax and not just wash?

Do those products leave stains on your driveway ?
