Grit Guard DA Pad Washer


My Grit Guard didn't quit fit in my bucket it only went down about 4 inches inside the bucket. This got me thinking. This may not be a bad thing, this is basically how the Grit Guard pad washer is designed.

Before I design my own DIY pad washer. I thought I'd ask MOL members to share their DIY designs. Please post photos if possible. It would be interesting to see what some of you have come up with.

In an $1,800 washing machine.... I bet they come out clean ;-) Hopefully it has a quick wash cycle, so you can them done before your significant other catches you.

I also use the washing machine. However, I want to wash the pad prior to throwing it into the washing machine. I have one pad that I neglected to wash in time and it's not looking too healthy. The compound that was left on it left it pitted permanently. Sometimes I take a couple of days to finish a job. I'd prefer to machine wash my pads all at once.

i use pad washer and is the best investment i made so far.
when i compound pad washer is a bless.
once in a while i clean all the pads , let them in the sun for a few minutes and have all my pads clean , dry and ready.
the pad washer has grittguard on "springs" so when you press the pad to clean it doesn`t damage. if u don`t have the springs it may clean the pad but damage in the same time.
plus the springs allows u to rich the water just enough to clean the pad not suckit in.....
sure can be done something like that , watch some vids and see the mechanism.

Guess what? You can use your pad washer to clean clothes ! How else to justify it !

Do you use this Universal Pad Washer after your are done using the buffing pads? Or can it be used in-between?

I clean my buffing pads with APC+ (10:1) or Super Degreaser (10:1) and rinse with water.

These pad washers can be used for both... A true time saver when machine polishing a car as washing pads by hand in between will definately slow you down.. I myself have to wash by hand... But now am fortunate enough to have a few pads before I have to start washing

I use Dawn dish soap, hot water, and my hands....

And if you have a nasty, dried out pad, just let it soak for a while! It will soften up and come clean.

Same here.....and you can spin them dry on the PC on #6. Gets them almost totally dry and ready to re-use.

Sharing a washing machine with polishing & waxing pads together with clothes is probably not the best thing to do considering that some have abrasives residue(compounds can bleach) and waxes/sealants are difficult to remove...
