  • Removing white scratches on UNPAINTED plastic bumpers.

Hey everybody, as a Jeep owner I like to go off-roading once in a while because I think that is what their made for, but sometimes I get myself into some pretty tight spots where it's to late to turn around so your best to just keep on going. In these times your probably going to run into tree branches slightly scraping your bumpers creating a white scratch that will not come out. To remove these scratches all you need to do it get a heat gun and on low-med heat point the gun at the scratch, not to close or you'll boil the plastic and literally watch it disappear.

    Just my $0.02.

        Welcome To MOL!
That is a great tip to remember for future detailing jobs.

Does the heat cause any secondary damage to the bumper?
        Is your bumper textured?
        What Color is it?

        thanks,

I've seen people use this trick (on the net, not in person) to bring the color back on plastics. I don't know if it harms the plastic?

Yes, my bumper is slightly textured and is like a charcoal colour. There was one time that I got secondary damage and that was because I stayed in one spot to long, and all that really happened was the texture changed a bit, but the colour was perfect.

This trick especially works well when you have a unpainted plastic bumper that was at one time pushed in, and you know when that happens you get white creases, well that is when this trick works well. You can slightly heat up the dent, pull it out with a suction cup of some sort then remove the creases with the heat gun. Know I'm wishing I took before/after pic's.

You can still post an after pick.

Next time you go offroading take a camera with you, squeeze through some bushes to scrape the bumper, take a picture of the damage, and then photodocument the repair process.
