  • Convertible and Cats <arrrhhh>

My ragtop sleeps in a semi-opened garage where the neighbour's cat loves to climb on, I guess it's comfy for him, bugs the heck out of me.

I went to the pet store looking for a repellent, nothing. Used a piece of fake grass carpet for a while (works, but messy, pain to store and put on).

A cover is been dismissed 'coz I am not letting a cat makes me go through the pain of taking/putting a cover on everyday. What's the point of getting a convertible and to let a cat rob me of my freedom!

I ended up putting a sheesecloth on top, it's just a big piece of paper covered with a layer of thin plastic on one side, used for painting, bought at home depot, just something I had on hand and eh, what I gotta lose. Seems to work! the cat seems to know he doesn't like to sit on top of that semi-slippery surface. EZ to fold and remove. Cheap.

Unfortunately this won't work on the outside or where wind can blow over the cover.

    Maybe try a dog!

Seriously, I'll put some thought into this. I inherited 3 cats when I moved in with my fiance. (She got to keep the cats, and I get to keep the HEMI in the one car garage).

Vinegar or green Apples, cats hate both. Most of the cat repellents on the market are based on one or the other. My neighbor has a small animal preserve going on next door and since cats don't taste very good I had to find another method. I pored a gallon of white vinegar around the parking area and along the shared fence line. Works like a charm. It wears off after awhile or washes away after a rain, but cats have a good memory. I refresh is every 6 months or when I notice cat prints on the car.

Try placing a couple flypaper strips on the roof. After a bout with this sticky paper the cat will move on.

Yeah - our cats hate citrusy stuff.

They hate any strong fragrances (like deodorant - one jumps up on the sink when I am getting ready for work and I just wave a stick of deodorant in front of her and she runs off).

Would something like #40 be a good option?

I've used pepper spray in the past when a huge cat kept getting into our garbage, just remember to close the windows when you spray it or you'll get yelled at by every member inside the house after they are done choking and hacking and snot quits running out of their noses..

Another thing that works really well also is cayanne pepper powder. I got one of those large containers of it at a dollar store and made a ring around my parking area then it was hot foot city for mister kitty. I should say hot tongue not foot but you got the idea.
