  • Foam Style Tire Cleaner

Thought I would share this tip I figured out last summer for Foam Style Tire Cleaners.

I've always had a problem with "fling" from any tire dressing I've used...Foam, Spray, and Gel. Finally, last summer, inspiration hit me.

I pulled the car out of the garage to get ready to wash it and applied the Foam Cleaner first. Once it was done doing it's thing, I washed the whole car, and as a final step before drying, I washed the tires down with a damp soapy wash mit.

Now, this doesn't give your tires a "wet look" once they are dried, but it doesn't give a nice satin black finish to them.

I saw the thread someone else started about using a paintbrush for gel types, and I think I'll give that a try also.

I use NXT insane tire shine and just let it dry. Never had any problems with it flinging.

So you're using a foam "cleaner" first, then washing them with car wash shampoo. But you aren't giving them a final dressing of any kind. I've recently experienced a bit of sling with Hot Shine Tire Foam, but I put that down to user error: too much product, not enough dry time before driving the car. Oooops, my bad.

i havent had that problem in awhile. i realized that i was putting on way too much product. just spray it on about 6 inches away, and in sections. let it sit for about 5 min, then wipe off excess. its not that bad.

and from my experience, the foam tire 'cleaners' dont work for me. its pure degreaser for me, then the car soap, then the tire shine.

For me I have found the 'secret" when applying any tire product is to let it dry, come back and wipe off the excess.

I spray it uniformly in 1 pass - then immediately wipe over-spray off the rims, then leave it for an hour or so and the foam is gone leaving me with a brilliant shine (Meguiar's Hot Shine foam.)

NXT Insane Shine is my favorite though - it sprays like clear coat spray paint, and clings so crazy it's hard to wash off. No spin off on the fenders! (If you don't wash it off properly you will just cake more on top of brake dust and road grime, be sure to scrub good with a separate sponge.)
