    Re: Pad Cleaning my way

You can avoid having to use any sort of dish brush/spur by cleaning your pads in a timely manner. I would say within a couple hours of use.

After I'm done, my pad is caked with "brand X's" fine cut or machine glaze, so I simply run the hot water, spread some dish soap on the pad and knead it in with my hands. Then with my thumbs (and the pad under the water) run them across the surface and continue to squeeze. Then wring 5 or 6 times until the suds stop, and the pad is almost like new. Been doing this on my pads that are approaching 1 yr old and it works great. Thing is, polish does not really penetrate deep into a pad's surface. I would say the top 1/4" maybe. That's why its easy to get them back to new.

Nice 5 min burst workout for your hands too!!

    >>>my fear is it'll be to wet for too long and then backing on the pad will come off and then there goes the pad.<<<

I'm still a rookie in reference to using a PCDA. I have know idea what to expect, other than what I've read. That being said, for me cleaning the pads would be considered inconsequential (waiting for the weather to break) for me at this point. I thought I'd throw in the thought of [maybe] using the dishwasher. I seemed a good idea at the time. Now that I've read you mentioned a potential DE-lamination debacle, I could see that as being a problem. Good catch.

Try dawn power dissolver, it comes in a spray bottle and can be found in the home cleaning aisle. It gets tough stuff like NXT and #21 out without breaking a sweat. I haven't had much luck with regular dawn on those two. APC has worked ok, but the Power Dissolver is amazing.

no i haven't. but not sure if it'll work. seems like a great idea though. it'll be hot enough to melt any left over wax that's for sure.

there isn't any scrubbing action going on. more high powered jet water and heat.

maybe though, you can clean the pads using a TT, then soak them 10:1 APC and then place them in dishwasher by themselves and see.

my fear is it'll be to wet for too long and then backing on the pad will come off and then there goes the pad.

great write up and pads look good.

one question. how is the backing on the pad? i wanna wash mine but i hear you're not really suppose to and MEGUIARS doesn't promote that.

Why do we need to clean applicator pads. The car is clean before use so pad should be clean. I store used pads in a open zip lock bag. Meguiar rep. at a Good Guys car show gave me that info.

I use APC 4:1 in warm water, soak for 15 minutes and scrub with a similar brush, basically the same thing.

The only thing when washing the applicator pad that way there still dirt inside of the applicator. I washed mine in the washer and they came out clean.

thats what i do just throw them in the wash with the towels and the soap in the wash gets them clean but ill try the way you did it cause sometimes i need them quicker and to wash them and dry takes a bit longer in the washer

    good how-to/tip

    Hi new here,
I clean my pads almost the same way works great. Also for applicator pads throw them in the washer with your towels usually works good for me.
And this is coming from a girl...I clean mine in the bathroom or kitchen sink...lol.

You're obviously not married, or you would be cleaning that pad in a bucket in the garage, instead of the bathroom!
