  • Scratch fix in new paint

Im getting ready to colorsand my car.

Had it painted with ppg base/clear from their custom color line. Car was painted 4 yrs ago and Im now just getting around to getting car put back together.

I have 2-3 small scratches from my outdoor cat. Theyre not into the color, just the clear. Well, one might be . My question is what should I use to try and fill them? Theyre not real deep, but dont think I can sand them out. Will touching them up with clear before colorsanding work at all? If so, what would be good to use? Wasnt sure if laquer touchups will look right.

Color is silver. Dont notice it too much except one. Just since I need to colorsand, figured this would be my best chance.

    Thanks Rich

Rich, are you going to wet sand the entire car or just those areas with deep scratches?

Color sanding refers to single stage paints when you actually remove base coat not clear coat.

      Rich,

With lighter scratches like that I've had good success using clear as a touchup. Just make sure you let it dry long enough so that you don't sand all the clear you just put on back off. Normally I don't even sand after doing this because it blends good enough for my daily driver. If you're going to sand the whole car down you may be able to get some of those out as you sand.
