  • Hi everyone. Haven't seen where to post this.. trim care.

I have a car that I painted myself over a year ago. Very proud of it but I have some heavy grit da marks on the stainless steel polished trim and the rubber trim surrounding the windows has been damaged by paint and chemicals used to clean the car.

I'd like to get the trim looking better as it's what is keeping the car from looking decent.

The marks in the polished steel were done with a DA and were 320 grit so I took them by stepping up through several different grit's ( all wet) and ended at 2000 grit. It's nice but It doesn't look 'mirror' finish like it should. The next step I was thinking was using some type of rotary extension on the DA/Drill to get it to polish up. Any thoughts?

Also, as far as the black trim is concerned I was thinking of just getting some rubber-adhesive black paint and tape of the car and paint. Any thoughts on this.

These pics should help a bit. (some are before the clear-coat cut/buff ;-) )

    Appreciate any help.

If you have time to kill here are pics of the cut/buff. ( I learned as I went.. lots of waste. )

I have spider lines all over the car so I actually need to go back and hit it with 105 or 205 again to take those out.

Wasn't able to edit my post but I should have added that I cut using a da with 1500 grit then went straight to 105 then 205. It's hard to explain this but I'll try. The spider lines I said I have I believe came from the DA paper. The da pads I was using had circular holes in the pad itself (for I believe dust dispersion) and in some parts of the car I can see the orbital marks clearly from these holes in the DA pad and I suspect the spider lines are from the same thing. I tried several times to go back with 105 and get them out with no success.

    Anywho.. thanks for any input.
