  • just painted car

I just painted my t bird electric blue, About two weeks ago i just wetsanded and polished the hood it turned out ok but a crazy amount of swirls. my question is it ok to apply swirlx on a freshly painted car?
Also i have noticed that after one session of sanding and buffing the surface always turns cloudy a couple days later then you have to buff it again. Why is that?

Is there a faster way to wetsand? it took me 4 hours to do so on just the hood.

i repolished the hood tonight but the outcome was not what I wanted, it has a decent reflection but not as good as I would like and it has scratch marks from sanding and still a good amount of swirls any ideas here guys?
i have alot of the consumer line products but just a few of the pro, i have paint reconditioning cream, 105, lil bit of 205, m07 and I have a wool pad all the way up to a finishing pad from meguiars. I just cant get a good reflection with little to no swirls.
    Please help.

      Can you post some pictures?

What grit did you finish sanding with?

Typically we need a rotary and M105 on a wool pad to remove sanding marks. It can be done with a G110/DA/PC but will take a lot of applications to do it.

Pictures will help to dial in your process.

What polishing machines do you have available? What is your skill level with the rotary? DA? How long has it been since the paint was applied?

            Re: just painted car

Sounds like there is limited/no clearcoat if it's clouding that fast...

Also- what was the painting process/experience of the painter/facilities?

              Re: just painted car

I painted it myself. It was my first full car paint job. We only had enough time to do one layer but we made sure it was on there pretty thick

Also it took about 4 days and it started to haze lightly like just enough to show lines from where the buffer was at

                  Re: just painted car

Rotary + M105 + Maroon Solo Wool pad is my favorite combination for removing wetsanding marks. Once those are gone, I follow with a DA and M205 with a polishing pad.

Every paint is different and these products might not work on that paint. There's a very good chance they will, but remember every paint is different and test from least aggressive to most aggressive.

Set up a 18" square test spot using painter's tape on the hood. Work that area until you get the result you want. Then repeat on the rest of the car.

                    Re: just painted car

Man- just be careful not to work through the paint. You mentioned that you only had time for one coat, but that you layed it on "pretty thick" and I'm worried that the mix might have been off a little, the paint not cured, or something- don't burn through...

                      Re: just painted car

im debating repainting it, renting the paint booth again and redoing the bas and alot more clear. It didnt come out the way i had planned there was some basecoat coming through the blue. This was due because i didnt have enough clear basecoat to mix the pearl so i had to sparsely paint the car and some spots it shows so i think the best thing to do is to recoat it.

                        Re: just painted car

Well I kept trying on the paint and just did the roof of the car. I think I finally got it down.
First I started out with 800 grit,1500,2500,then, 3000. Wool pad with speed 3.5 out of 6 with 105. Then
I did the meguiars finishing pad on 4 of 6 speed with 205. It finally came out good. I'm so happy. And there is no wax on the paint so it should look a lot better when its finally time to put a nice coat of wax on the fresh paint.
