What exactly does it mean for the paint to wrinkle? It sounds bad, sorry to hear that.

Re: $310 detail for free!!!!!!!!
Sorry to hear that, but you're a stand-up pro for taking responsibility and making everything right with the owner.
Todd, thanks for the heads-up on the Bimmer issue. Is there an online repository for detailers listing hidden pitfalls like this one? Should one be started here?

Re: $310 detail for free!!!!!!!!
That stinks, fwiw this should be service bulletin. You are now the third detailer (the other two are very good) who has had this happend. IIRC the other two where on the front bumper. I would caution anybody who is doing a detail on these newer Bimmer's to be very careful!!!

$310 detail for free!!!!!!!!
ok, so i charge this guy $310 for a wash, clay bar, machine polish, interior wipedown, and spot sanding a few scuffs in the rear bumper, and two coats of zymol glasur wax... 6 hour job... everything is goin good, cars lookin soooo good!! (05' BMW M3 Dark Grey) im removing 3000 grit sanding marks, with ultimate compound and a faom pad... I put the rotary on 1000rpm to be safe and spread some compound around before i start workin it... as soon as i put the pad to the paint, it wrinkled it!!!!! on the back bumper!!!! about an inch big!!! no burn through, nothing like that... i measure the paint its a uniform 3-4 mils all the way around the car, most likely no repainting has been done.. the owner has a clean car fax on it, and has had it for a year and says theres no repainting he is aware of... ahahahahahahahah so i call the dealership... yup u guessed it $300 to respray a one inch wrinkle mark... 6 hour free detail, and a screw up on my record now... and my insurance wont cover it because i have a $500 deductible... i guess the only thing i can do is laugh that one off!!!!Last edited by Markus Kleis; Apr 29, 2009, 07:32 PM.
