  • Touch up without wet sanding? Could it be done with a PC?

    Hey guys,

I was curious to weather you could do paint touchup (I have a couple random rock chips I want to touchup) but do not want to wet sand afterwards.

I have LC orange light cutting pad and white polishing pad to use with my 7424, and want to know if I do the touch up, will I be able to remove a bit of blob afterwards with scratch-x and polish and whatnot?

I don't need it to be flawless, but I just want to stop it from looking so obvious on my car (2008 black sand pearl scion xB).

Also, I have the dealer touch up paint, which seems to be a nice consistency to fill in nicely to the pits.

    Thanks for the help!

I have done touch up on several cars in the past without wet sanding afterward. Just make sure the scratch/ pit is clean and don't over apply the paint. Also I have always gone and picked up some small brushes at an artist store to do the touch up.

So is it possible to remove 2500 or 3000grit wetsanding marks with a PC/G110/G220?

no the PC just does not have the power necessary to fully remove sanding marks. If you are going to completely remove sanding marks you will need a Rotary.

Try buying a paint pen. Most dealerships sell them now. Other option is finding it online. Google paintscratch. Fills in the chip nicely with little blob.

OK, here is a question: Does anybody feel like I do that wet sanding with electrical tools is detailing equivalent of a russian roulette?

No, one needs the rotary to get them out. Some other forum experts say you can remove them with a PC, , but that is not accurate.

                I say: Yes, you can.
You just should not work with a PC like you do it with a rotary.

I removed 2500 sanding marks COMPLETLY with my G220, Megs Cutting Pad and Menzerna IP (compareable to #83).

I think it's just a myth that you can't remove sanding marks with a PC. If you know how, you can.

Well if people are getting 2500 grit sand scratches out by HAND with M105 I would think it would be a walk in the park with a PC.
