  • Feathersanding question

My cat left 3 approx 8" scratches on my hood tonight. They're deep enough to lightly catch my fingernail, but not down to the primer. I was thinking of feathersanding them with 2500 and 3000 Unigrit paper. My question is whether I can remove the sanding marks with my PC as I don't have a rotary. I don't mind making multiple passes with different grades of polish, but do you think it will do the job?

Btw, the paint is a single stage black on a 92 Mercedes 300E.

    Thanks

    Re: Feathersanding question

If it catches your fingernail it is generally to deep to remove the scratch by the means of removing paint. You may want to look into getting some touch-up paint and then applying it to the scratch, letting it cure for a week or two, wet sanding and buffing it. If it is deep enough to catch a fingernail you propablly wont safely be able to remove the scratch and leave enough paint on the car.

Wetsanding may/will make the scratches less visable.
