  • Fiberglass Jeep Top

Posting this in the marine section even though it's a Jeep, the top is fiberglass and the previous owner told me he thought the paint was some kind of epoxy but he wasn't real sure about it.
Anyway the paint is now about 4 years old and sees a lot of Arizona sun. No real terrible oxidation yet (there's a little dirt and water spots in the pics). I'd like to give it some protection from the sun and wondering what the suggestions are. I've been successful at compounting out some trail "pinstripes" by hand with Ultimate Compound but have not applied any wax. I'm thinking on compounding it out then applying wax. On my fiberglass RV which is part gel coat and part paint I've used the Ultimate Compound by machine and the Ultimate Wax by hand with good results. I've also used the #50 cleaner/wax on the RV fiberglass roof but that roof is not painted, it's filon. Here are some pics of the Jeep roof, thanks.

What about Meg's marine waxes? They are made for fiberglass and gel coats

Well that's just it, although it's fiberglass, it's painted. So I won't really be applying anything to fiberglass or gel coat but to paint, the only difference is I suspect it's an epoxy marine paint. I'm thinking to just try what I use all the time, the Ultimate Compound followed by the Ultimate Wax. I could tape off a small area in the center of the roof that can't be seen from the ground for testing.

Since it's really paint I'll be working on and not directly on the fiberglass maybe I didn't think this through and maybe I should post in a different forum.

      Thanks for the reply

My other issue is those recessed channels, I'll need to be really careful around those that I don't burn thru on an edge. Might have to do those by hand.
