Just ordered the new Dewaltx and was wondering about the speed settings when using M105/M205.

    M105/Yellow pad speed?
    M205/Black pad speed?

Just wondering about the general speeds to help me dial in

    Re: Rotory speeds

Even more so with a rotary than with a DA, speed settings are going to vary greatly depending on what you're trying to accomplish. If you're looking to remove moderate to heavy swirls with M105/yellow pad you'll be in the 1400 - 1800 rpm range, depending on how hard the paint is, how well it responds, etc. M205/black pad could be as high as 1400 rpm if you need to remove holograms from a more aggressive previous step on fairly hard paint, or all the way down to 600 rpm if you're going to be ........... jeez, we're gonna say it.......... jeweling the paint.

But odd situations can happen: You may recall that black 330i we posted about recently with the crazy hard paint, but we were spinning a burgundy cutting pad with M105 at 1800 rpm to correct that mess on that paint. That sort of speed/pad/liquid combo is usually reserved for removal of sanding marks, but that's what the paint wanted. You may also recall mention of a Superformance Cobra that loves M205 on a yellow pad at 1200 rpm....... a bit odd, perhaps, but it's what the paint wanted.

Wow thanks for the info Mike! Now I have somewhat of a starting point with your system. But im sure they are all about the same.

Here at work I use 3M's Perfect-it line and DW849 following their recommendations and love what it does. Hence the reason I picked up the new X model to play with at home. I do have a black Grand National coming in for work and that is also why I picked up the machine.
