  • Milwaukee 5460-6 Polisher

Yesterday, I polished my family car (Honda 2002) using Milwaukee 5460-6 polisher at speed 2 (around 1100-1200 rpm) with finishing pad and Menzerna 85 Rd final polish. However, for first time I found the polisher is jumping all over the surface regardless any hand control you apply to put the polisher back in course. I thought, first, that could be because me I'm not controlling this bear as it should to be. After, 5 attempts I decided to switch to the second polisher I had (3M polisher) and it was no problem and the polisher was smooth and controllable as it should to be. Any advice why I'm seeing this issue with Milwaukee.

Same pad, same liquid, same car? If so, just changing tool shouldn't cause the pad to skip around. Was the pad properly centered on the backing plate when using the Milwaukee? How much heavier is the Milwaukee than the 3M? The extra weight may have an impact on this if you were just using the weight of the tool - not that the 3M is a real light weight, but some older Milwaukee tools are built like the Pyramids it would seem and weigh almost as much as the car your working on!

Milwaukee 5460-6 is about 1lb heavier, its built like a tank. I used many time before with no problem but yesterday when I was thinking about that I never used with 8 inch pad. I'll try some time next week to use it with smaller pads and see the result. I'm pretty certain it was center correctly due to the fact I checked 2 times.
