First off I want to thank everyone on here for there insight on car car products. Lately I have been borrowing a friends porter cable 7424XP and I like it a lot but it just doesn't do everything I need it to so I an looking at buying a makita 9227 and was wondering what all the differences where between the model numbers ie 9227c, 9227cy, 9227cx3, & 9227cx5 are. I already have two farm trucks to try it out on and get my technique down.

Re: makita questions
Those letters after 9227 just represent different package options, like more buffing pads included, backing plates, carrying bag, etc.
Makita 9227 has a smooth start option and pretty good speed range starting at 600 rpm. It's not as light as two Flex rotary buffers (3403 nor PE14-2).
If your detailing doesn't include constant wet/damp-sanding and removal of sanding marks then you have couple other options before stepping up to rotary buffer league.
Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction System is one option and it increases your defect removal ability by using microfiber discs and two liquids designed for them: D300 Correction Compound and D301 Finishing Wax - both very user friendly and extremely easy to apply/wipe off.
Option two would be Flex XC 3401 VRG dual action polisher with forced rotation. No matter how much down pressure you apply to this machine you won't stop its rotation. Expect much faster defect removal than traditional dual action polishers can offer. The only down size is its price (around $300) while DA Microfiber Correction System 5" Starter Kit is around $80-$90.
