  • Need help over the rotary decision

    Need help from everyone here!
I plan to remove the scratches and blemishes from my car using #83 and W-7000 with rotary buffer. Unfortunately, only two levels of speed available, 2000 rpm and 1400 rpm, from Makita (There is no single brand of adjustable speed rotary available in the local market, Thailand) So my questions are
1 Which speed will be the best for removing the scratches and cobweb? 1400 rpm or 2000 rpm?
2 Will the combination of #83 and W-7000 work?
3 I also read about polymer based wax that it cannot be topped with canuba wax since the petroleum distillate from the pure canuba wax will affect the polymer based wax. Is it true? Since I plan to use Medallion Paint Protection and top with A#26. will this two work?
    Thks .

    Hi Tanat198,

Use the low speed setting on the rotary buffer as the high speed setting is to fast for what you want to do.

The W-7000 should work fine with the #83 DACP. I would recommend a secondary step to follow the W-7000 with the #83 as the W-7000 is a cutting pad and won't leave as clear or high gloss finish as a polishing pad or a finishing pad.

You read a lot of things on the Internet and some of it's true and some of it's false. If you want to use Medallion Premium Paint Protection first, and then layer an application of the either Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax, (part number A-2216), or M-2616 Hi Tech Yellow Wax, you'll be okay and your finish should look like it just came out of the paint booth.

    Hope this helps...

Post some pictures when you're through.

Tanat198 - you've got to go with what Mike said. After all, Mike is an authority in my book. Although I haven't replied to many of his post I read nearly all of them. Looking forward to seeing some pics when you finish. Good Luck!

        Thanks guys..
I will try to search on the internet to get 9227 since its variable speed is a real advantage. But if i can't get it, i'll go with the 1400 rpm Makita rotary then.

I am so glad to find this forum. It's like having advisors at home.
I'll post the pics once I finish it.

        Thks again!!

          Hey,

I agree with Mike, if those speeds are the only choices, then use the 1400 RPM setting. However, if you can locate a Makita 9227 or a Dewalt 849, you will gain more flexibility with the variable speeds.

As for pad choice, I would suggest trying the W-8006 Polishing Pad and the rotary first. If this combo does not remove the defects, then go to the W-7006 pad. I would suggest using the 6.5 inch pads with the rotary as they are easier to learn with. Rotary pads have a tendency to "walk" or bounce. It takes time getting control of the buffer.

I wanted the 7229 or DW 849 too so I can start off learning the tool with slower speed. But unfortunately, the local distributors here do not import any variable speed tool. So it leaves me with two choices. I will try to get a hold of SIngapore distributor and see if they can supply me with either Makita or DW. If I can't, I will go for 1400 rpm one.
Perhaps someone in this board from SIngapore can help me!!!!!
