I wanted to see how this badly swirled plastic fender from a Renault Twingo would react to some buffing. There were also some rids in a corner which could only be improved as they were down to the primer. One lengthy scratch across the centre. I found this to be a nice paint job,Black with metallic in it and very little orange peel. I reckon a soft to medium paint.
This is the panel before:

Not very nice and swirled to hec.
Here was the main damage in one corner:

I ran out of my 2500 grit papers and only had 2000, and started to work on the damaged corner.(The long centre scratch,I left for the time being to see if it could have been cut with the buffer).
Can't find the pic of the sanded corner??
Once again I'm stuck with the bare essentials, but I felt a heavy cut compound would have been helped out here.
So,first was a pass with medium cut on a wool pad at about 1800rpms. This deswirled the surface no problem, but wasn't cutting the sanding marks as yet.

Second pass left some tracers and the scratch in the centre was still present and much the same. The third pass cleaned up the corner. I sanded over the scratch in the middle with 1500,then 2000. It didn't feel deep at the begining. I took it down to a level were the orange peel was smoothed out and stopped.
The scratch is still there, but I felt it was passible, without removing too much material.

Again, three passes and the sanding work was gone. The scratch is still there, but very faint now.I was happy with that.
Now on to the buffing. Fine cut material with a soft buff. Worked 1200/1300 rpms down to minimum:900rpms.
First pass:

Here I decided to finish with a DA
Just Kiddin'

Here are some afters 2nd pass, topped off after with DC2 and NXTTW2. Had to wait 'till today for the 50/50's as the sun was fading.

Here's today's 50/50's

Here's the damage in the corner after everything was done. A lot of it couldn't be corrected, but would be easily touched up with matching paint and be very acceptable.

I didn't have any problems with this particular panel, and could work as normal. But after reading Rasky's thread about the newer Honda that reacted,I'll be wary when I eventually do the Insight, when it's time comes.
Always fun doing this. Hope it's usefull.
