  • Cheap Rotary?

I don't know where this company originates. It's called 'Walker Professional Protools' . I can only find references for a company in italy.

I saw this on a supermarket shelf for 69.99 euros:

    Rotary Buffer
    1200w
    RPM: 1000 - 3000
    2 year warranty

I checked a couple of boxes to see where they were made, but no reference. I could only see an address for Milan,Italy.

On the internet,I typed in 'Walker Protools' and entered the product page(Adobe),but the rotary is not there at the moment.Possibly it's a new product. There are a couple of Orbitals amongst other tools.

    Has anyone else seen this?

When in doubt, don't use it. Or at least practice on a panel first.

    But on a supermarket shelf?

69.99 Euros = 100.60 US Dollars. That's exactly how much a decent, generic brand rotary costs in America. Maybe it's cheap for something you can buy in Italy, but $100 is kind of hefty still. Maybe it is like one of those replicas on eBay.

I am not really that surprised to see tools starting to appear on shelves in Europe. I notice that in Europe many grocery stores are transforming to utilize the Walmart strategy... meaning that they are starting to sell a large variety of products. Just like in some Fred Meyer stores you could buy the rotary polishers on the opposite end of the fresh produce asile.

You want cheap go pick up the unit from Harbor Freight for $30.

It actually works quite well until the speed dial craps out and you are stuck at full speed. Stop in, pick up new one

            Re: Cheap Rotary?

I've mentioned this many times before.

When an item costs X amount in the states,I just multiply it by 3. So,what you say is correct and therefore i'm correct also.

My rotary cost me way more than 70euros. So that model by 'Walker' is not expensive in europe for a rotary.

I thought Makita,Flex,Dewalt,Milwaukee rotaries cost more than 100$'s? ....in the states.

              Re: Cheap Rotary?

The prices for popular brand rotaries can differ quite significantly in America. While the Makita is sold for around $200 plus tax in retail stores, it can be had for as little as $160 tax free on eBay. The same goes for the Dewalt and Milwaukee brand new units. For around $160-180, it is hard not to choose the top machines.

Of course, there are also a lot of generic brands on eBay or in local automotive parts stores for under $100. I think the Walker model you see is very similar to the the generic ones found on eBay or at Harbor Freight. Those who have used these generic brands seem to like them. They may certainly not be the best, but the consensus is that they get the job done just fine.

If you can save up some more money, I would do so and get a quality rotary (makita, dewalt, flex, etc). Good, High Quality hand tools aren't cheap and you get what you pay for (in most all cases).

                  I'm not looking for one.

$200 seems more like it(ebay excluded).

I would have thought the flex to be more expensive?

                    Re: Cheap Rotary?

The FLEX is the most expensive unit anywhere. But for Autodetailingsolutions.com is seling the unit bundled with three Softbuff 2.0 pads, a backing plate, and a cleaning brush for $230. That makes it a bargain.

I just love the fact that if your polishing and get to a problem area with a flick of the switch you have a rotary and Dynabrade is the very best air tools I have ever used.
