  • Foam Pad with 105?

I was planning to use the Lake COuntry orange pad on my Makita 9227 for my first cut after 3000 wet/dry on clear coat using the 105 compound. Anybody got experience with this formula? I see that a wool pad is often used with the 105, not a foam pad. I was going to follow the 105 with 205 and the yellow Lake COuntry pad on my PC 7424XP.

What do you guys think of this?

    Thanks, in advance.

Sure! I use M105 with cutting and polishing pads all the time.

My only other tip would be to prime the pad.

I would not use an LC yellow cutting pad after using M105 with an orange pad on your PC. An orange or white would be a perfect follow up.

      Re: Foam Pad with 105?

Generally you need the extra cutting ability of a wool pad to remove sanding marks, and our W5000 Double Sided Wool Pad used with M105 yields excellent results in this application, with minimal swirls. What swirls do result should be readily removed with M205 on a W9207 or similar finishing pad on the rotary, or M205 with a W8207 or similar polishing pad on a D/A. As PorscheGuy suggests, using a more aggressive pad at this step would not be recommended.

The orange LC pad is their light cutting pad and as such it may not be aggressive enough to pull your sanding marks. Surely at 3000 grit you aren't presenting as much of a challenge to the pad/liquid combo as 1500 grit would, so depending on time and skill it may work. Certainly there's no harm in trying, but don't be surprised if it's just a bit too gentle to reach your desired goals. It would not be our first choice combination.

I've had good results using the yellow Meguiar's pad with 105 on a D/A removing swirls and halo's.............I do turn it up to 6 though

I usually do m105 on wool, then m105 on a heavy polishing pad to clean it up a little bit, then a light polishing pad with "dual action cleaner polish" then follow up with a finishing pad and some m205, all of those are apllied with the rotary... it works amazing, then apply some synthetic sealant with the da, and wahhh lahhh

The orange pad with M105 will remove 3000 grit marks with ease. But you will need to follow up with a few passes to completely remove the sanding marks. You may want to consider using a yellow LC pad if you persist on using a foam pad for sanding marks removal. I have read somewhere that the yellow pad has extremely good cutting power, but produces much less marring, holograms, trails, and swirls compared to wool.
