A couple of initial posts to this thread were of the opinion that rotary buffing isn't a big deal. That's just not the case for someone starting out. Period.
I never said it wasnt a big deal... I never said it was easy... I just said I did it for the first time and didnt mess anything up. Clearly it wasnt a claim that rotary use is easy... just delete this thread since its such a problem... that would solve the issue and I'm totally fine with it.

      That's a good point!

I've tried as you said,Mike, with a flat foam pad at about 1200 or so and just kissed a plastic bit of trim(scrap) and it burned it instantly! You wouldn't even have time to prevent it,once it touched.

The person with the BMW...That's awful!...Was it repairable after?

Youtube should be controlled better.Anything like that should be approved before it is posted. I don't know, but what happens if someone 'Flags' a video on youtube? I think it's more to do with offensive material, but safety should come into it aswell.

Man you're taking this way over your head.

Look, the Rotary has been KNOWN to be misused on many occasions. Even some professionals who has been using the tool for YEARS can make one mistake and burn some paint. Even if it's only 1cm of burnt paint, it's still happened.

Now when you come here and say "Oh I used the Rotary for the first time and did my truck," it's only natural we talk about pre-cautions and tips and things like that.

People aren't here to "Blast you," they are just concerned and hope for the best for you. Especially a guy like Michael Stoops, everything he says is meant to help and educate anybody he answers questions to.

Now take a breather, take one step back, and realize we're trying to understand, not condemn you to the depths of hades.

I'd still like to see pics of this truck, perhaps some sun shots showing the trucks swirl free conditon would be nice, and I like Toyota T100s.

not at all... people are making this thread complicated when it was a very simple thing to begin with.

Never doubted that, still dont. Never said it couldn't.

Except that's not at all what I said. All I said was that I took out some scratches and didnt burn the paint and yes, it was my 1st rotary experience. that's all.

Well when people take so far out of context what I have written... it's getting blasty in here.

            I know what understanding is...

I removed some scratches. I never once said that I attained a "swirl free condition." I made no claim or attempt to restore the finish on my 13 year old truck. again... I removed some scratches.

maybe go back and read the first post again?

Re: Used rotary for the first time today

Well, if you removed some scratches via rotary then thats good. No more scratches, but what everyone is trying to emphasize is that the rotary is not easy

Thats why this section is called "Mastering the Rotary Buffer"

I am still trying to perfect my technique with the D.A and I havent even touched a rotary yet.

Heres the thing, someone that just joined MOL and is new to detailing may read your first post and go at it with a rotary on their car and create a huge problem that they cannot fix.

If some were to do that because they read my original post...well...maybe they had it coming... I give the human race more credit than that though.

I never said it was easy. I really wish ppl would quit thinking I said that....cause I didnt.

If the mods or Admins are worried about someone messing up a car cause of this thread, than I suggest they do what I already suggested... delete this thread... its so far gone now anyway. Its just a bunch of me clarifying my very simple original post, over and over again.

I agree, it is far gone. Like the others, I'm not having a go at you, but if you just accepted the advice given early on in the thread, instead of trying to defend (not clarify) your first post, then the thread would not have gotten to the point it is now and you would not be feeling like the victim.

Ok then, here are some excerpts from your first post:

...I know I didnt do it by the book...but the scratches are gone, and there arent any swirls...and no burnt paint.
It sounds to me like you're claiming that all the scratches and swirls are gone.

Zigzagg, sometimes its better to "quit while you're ahead" - just swallow a bit of pride and move on. We all make mistakes.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I didnt create any swirls from the buffing, there werent any on the truck to begin with.

Swallow my pride??? way to jump on the bandwagon there bro. Im not trying to "get ahead."

I HAVE NEVER HAD SO MANY WORDS PUT IN MY MOUTH IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. GET OVER IT PEOPLE... I BUFFED AND DIDNT mess ANYTHING UP... THATS ALL THAT HAPPENED...I DIDNT CLAIM ANYTHING ELSE, CAUSE NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED.

I have asked for my account to be deleted from this forum, because I dont want to have to explain the same simple thing over and over to 10 people every time I post.

and to the "this thread is worthless without pics" guy. I DIDNT TAKE ANY PICS AS I HAVE ALREADY STATED.

FOR THE LAST TIME... I BUFFED SOME SCRATCHES OUT OF MY TRUCK AND DIDNT mess ANYTHING UP...THATS ALL THAT HAPPENED AND THAT'S ALL i EVER SAID. GET. OVER. IT.
