looking for a rotary buffer

I'm trying to find a good rotary buffer to get. What kind would you guys sugggest? Where is a good place to purchase it?

The Dewalt 849, Makita 9227, Hitachi SP18 and Porter Cable 7428 are all popular models but they vary widely in price. There are other differences as well such as the Dewalt coming on with a "hard" start (pull the trigger and it's at the set speed NOW) while the Makita is a "soft" start (you can feather the speed in if you wish), the Hitachi is very quiet and the Porter Cable can often be found for much less money than the others.

We use the Dewalt 849s here in the Meguiar's Garage and I personally own a Makita 9227.

Have you had a chance to try a buffer of any sort yet? Do you know anyone who has one or more that you might get to test drive first? Obviously we are all going to have our personal reasons for choosing the buffer we did, but you really can't go wrong with any of these.

Well, the only type of buffer I've used is the g110. I love my g110 but I was looking for somthing with more power.

I have the Makita 9772. Also look at the 2 Flex rotaries.

I have no experience with any other Rotaries except the Makita 9227c that I recently just purchased. But I think if you have a ton of experience with a PC, you could handle a rotary. Except you need to keep moving and work a bit faster.

I personally got it on amazon for under $200. Comes with a bag, the makita, and two cheapo wool pads.

If you want to use the meguiar's 2.0 pads, then you need to buy a W66 backing plate from ADS.

Hey,

I have 2 Makitas (9207 and a 9227) and the Dewalt 849 rotaries. I use the Dewalt for compounding and the Makita for polishing duty. I love both brands but if I had to make a choice, I prefer the Dewalt overall.

I have both the Dewalt and Makita. I've also used a few Milwaukee ones too.

I like the Makita the best and would suggest getting it at Amazon.com

On a modern clear coat paint finish, which tends to be much harder than classic single stage paints, these 10" tools are generally pretty ineffective. They lack the torque needed to overcome the pressure you generally use/need to correct defects in the paint, so when you do apply pressure to the tool it just bogs down. They're fine for spreading wax, or using on very delicate/soft paint, but choice of pads is limited at best.

If you have the money to spring for a Makita or a Flex, they are probably the best quality rotaries available; if not, don't be ashamed to buy a Harbor Freight special. At $40 you really can't go wrong and although they are not of the highest quality and have a few minor quirks, they are a great place to start honing your skills and can still accomplish some pretty impressive results.

i just recently acquired a makita 9227c. its an awesome tool i specially like the soft start its a great tool to have in your arsenal. sooner or later im sure youll buy BOTH the dewalt AND makita.. i know i will..
