  • Foam Pads question.

Hi.I've got velcro backed foam pads. There is no information on them.Is there anyway to tell what grade they are? One looks like a 3M 'egg crate' pattern pad and the other is a thick pad which is flat.

The only info on the thick, flat type is what appears to be the maker:'Cargos' or 'Corgos' ?.....It's very faint and I can't make it out.

To be 100% sure, you should find out who the Mfg is, and then ask them which pad is which as far as cutting / polishing / finishing or other

      I agree with Mike.

You should also be able to get a general idea by the way the foam feels. Once you've felt enough pads you can sort of tell the cut. Not the most exact way but if it's your only option. Compare them to the pads you know what they are.

        Re: Foam Pads question.

I thought that would be the way.Basically I got them for nothing.I thought there might have been a test of somekind.Maybe by rubbing on a surface(obviously not the car) and seeing how it behaves?

I'm going to be doing a lot of practising over the summer.I'll try them out that way.

As you say,it's not exact, but I'll see what combo works by trial and error on old bodyparts.

        Thanks...Ed.

I have the same question. Is there any industry standard for the various colored pads; are certain colors for certain cuts?

I think this was brought up before. There isn't any industry standardization with colors. Only within certain manufacturers. It would be good if there was. The problem I had was not as to which foam was for aggresive cutting and which for fine polishing, but what grade within each group.
As mentioned above, you can get a good indication by feeling the pad.
