  • Milwaukee 5540.

hi,been looking through the threads.Don't see much info on the MW5540,except it's weight(not a problem).Other than that,I don't see anything bad about it.

It's about the only rotary of good quality that i can get my hands on round here.Over here cost's about 200-240 euros.I havn't seen the Makita here.

Anyone have any input for this model,or other models by Milwaukee?

Being you're in Europe can't you get the Flex rotaries locally for a competitive price?

        Re: Milwaukee 5540.

        Thanks for the input...

Shyneman..thanks for the pics and the advice.

Bounty....I havn't seen flex around these parts at all. There are two outlets for bodyshop materials within a 30mile radius. That's it.

I'm really lazy with ordering.I like to buy off the shelf...That's just the way I am.

The one thing i like about the milwaukee,is it's origin of manufacture. It looks like a pretty robust piece of equipment.

Do you have any preferences for the Flex? (apart from the weight)

I have used three rotaries in my life...the Porter Cable, the Makita, and the Flex. The weight of the Flex is obviously an advantage as is the ability to wield it longer with less fatigue. Ergonomics are nice as are quality and fit-and-finish. Using the Flex rotary is really what sealed the deal for me and made me purchase the Flex dual-action polisher. It's got all the features such as variable speed from 1.1k to 3.7k rpm's and onboard electronics for speed control, start-up protection, overload protection, and temperature monitoring. Also has the same trigger and speed switch design as the Flex DA. Automatic shut-off if the carbon brushes wear down to save the unit. Oh and did I mention it weighs only 4.75 pounds...

              Re: Milwaukee 5540.

              Thanks again!

I think these are all good machines. The weight of the flex will be almost half of the Milwaukee.

I believe the flex is made in germany,so should be good quality aswell.

I'll be going tomorrow to see again and maybe purchase.

I'll see what else they've got.

If I decide on the MW. Are there any issues with backing plates or pads?

As far as Makita and Flex go(I don't think they have these),what are the model no.'s that are of interest here?

The only other make they had was Festool.....Silly money(out of the question).Just as an example:I was told by another member on the forum that the DA was a really good sander, but not that great as a polisher.

                    Re: Milwaukee 5540.

Other than the weight, the 5540 is an excellent machine.

I didn't think they were available in a European version (230V w/M14 thread).

You might also want to check out the Milwaukee AP 12 QE, which isn't sold here in the US. It's really light and compact. looks like a great little unit.

I went today. There were no Flex models.

I bought the last one.Milwaukee AP 12 QE.

It is very light, good solid construction and is made in germany.
