Hello everyone, I hope everyone is having a good weekend
I posted in detailing101 that I just received the Makita I ordered. Well today I got started and was looking for some feed back about my process. I have a salvage hood but it is at my parents home so I decided to practice on the hood of my work vehicle. The truck is about 4 years old and is swirled up pretty badly. The company is about to replace it with a new model so I figured what the heck.
First I washed and clayed the hood
-1st step: M105 w/ W5000 at 1500RPM. I applied moderate pressure and went over the panel 3 times. I then used the weight of the machine for 1 pass. I then lowered the speed to 2 then 1. The panel was very hot so I decided to lower the number of passes on the next section.
-2nd step: M205 w/ W8000 at 1500RPM. Again I applied moderate pressure but this time only 1 pass. I did another pass using the weight of the machine. I lowered the speed to 2 then 1, w/ one pass on each speed.
-3rd step: M205 w/ W9000 at speed 2. I applied some pressure with one pass. I completed another pass at speed 1.
I am pretty happy with the result and I am going to continue to practice. I noticed after using the M105 and the W5000 there were still noticeable swirls. It wasn't until the M205 came into the mix I noticed almost zero swirls. Could it be possible the polish is hiding the swirls? I would appreciate some feed back. Here are a few before and after pics
