  • Dynabrade Rotary converter

Hi guys. I hate bringing up old stuff but what do you all think of the Dynabrade D.A. converter attachment for rotary buffers? I'm really thinking about getting one for my Makita but I'm not sure. I'd like something a little more powerfull then my PC but don't want to het the g110 or UDM. The new version of the Dynabrade seems nice. It has a button that quickly changes it from Da or rotary so theres no need to remove it to use the rotary as a rotary. Well, let me all know what you think. Thanks.

    It's great... Get it!

    Two good threads about it:

Jason Rose and I were product-testing yesterday and he used the attachment several times, with great success.
Dynabrade #61374 Random Orbital Head Kit

Converts Standard Rotary Tool to a Random Orbital Polisher!
For mounting to tool motors up to 3,200 RPM.
    5/8"-11 Female Thread
    Kit Includes:

Random Orbital Polishing Head (patent pending)
    50855 Hook-Face Backing Pad, 7" (178 mm) diameter
90082 Natural Sheepskin Polishing Pad, 7" (178 mm) diameter
    50679 Wrench, 26 mm

    He also used a long-throw, air-powered random-orbital.
A Dynabrade Dynabuffer #10240 (which I cannot seem to locate online info).
    It's random-orbital with a 12mm diameter throw, double-counterbalanced, gear-driven machine.

I just called to ask him which was more comfortable, and he said by far the rotary attachment (Especially during extended use)!
This is exactly what Mike Stoops observed (posted in the linked write-up).
    Both of them worked well.

The Dynabrade is a great choice. Keep in mind that it is designed for use with 8" pads.

I own one but for the life of me I can't find it?

The one I have adds quite a bit of weight to the head of your rotary buffer, not sure if there's a lighter weight version available, hang on and I'll get the model number of the one I have.

There is a actually a newer model that came out this past January. Model 61379 is the new model. It's also 5/8" - 11 female thread so it attachés to any rotary. It's very similar in looks but now has a button on it that allows you to change from DA to rotary action. I think it's a great idea since I would be able to use it as a DA but quickly change it over to rotary for tough spots. I think the new one might be a hair lighter. How do/did you like your? Since your the man when it comes to detailing, do you think it's worth getting? I just have a question about it. Can you replace the "backing Plate" on it with the 6" from my PC so I can use my 6.5" pads? I actually called Dynabrade today at work and the guy I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about.

Very similar looking. Just a newer model and has a button on it to change between DA action and Rotary action. That way, you don't have to remove the adapter if you want to us it as a rotary.

Cool! Thanks for the info. I've been researching it the past 2 days. I know it is designed as an 8" but I read somewhere that I can replace the backing plate with the one from my PC so I can use my smaller 6.5" pads. Is this true? If I can't, I wonder if I can buy a replacement pad from them so I can use a smaller buffing pad. I prefer the size of the smaller pads. I found a real good deal on line. I won't get the kit since I won't use the wool pad or what ever it comes with.

About how much do the cost?

Maybe we could do a group buy and get a better price if we ended up ordering a few. Just a thought.

Pretty much the only place that has them is an on line place http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/dyn61379.html. There $82.65. I bought this on line store would do a group buy. There price seems to be really good. I only found it at another place but it was a lot more. Actually, if I remember right, the only offered the kit and it was more expensive then sjdiscounttools. I ordered something from them way back and was happy with the service.

Anyone else want to chime in on this?? Man, I'm almost convinced that it's a good product but I don't know if I should spend the money. And the back plate has me a little confused. Can I use my backing plate from my PC? So far, I've read about 18 posts on various forums(Google search) and a little more then half the people say you can use any PC backing plate since it uses the same sized tread. But, I looked at the Dynabrade website at the exploded view and the backing plate seem to have a screw through it. I guess the screw could be the same size as the stud on the PC backing plate. Man I'm confused!

I did take the head apart and found that it uses the same style backing plate as the DA - backing plate with a 5/16 spindle.
