  • Anyone used this? converts a rotary to dual action?

Just saw this in one of my tool magazines, http://www.neweggmall.com/Product/20...0/product.html

It converts a rotary into dual action, so far I've only used orbitals but if this would work as well as a porter cable and have the ability to go rotary once I improve I might just go this route...
    What do you all think?

Do a search, there is a couple of write ups on this. Tom Weed had one, he might chime in. I got to use one at one of the Meguiars road show. I said I was going to buy one but that's a lot of money and you can only use the large pad with it.

Do you all think this would be to aggressive for a "newbie" I have used a rotary on my hood with mild products and supervision...

        Hey 99,

Just did a search on it and the only thing I could find was a thread from 2006 where Tom Weed sold his to Mike Phillips. From the comments that they made on the thread, it sounded like a very nice addition to one's tool arsenal. They said that it could even be modified to fit pads other than just the big 8in, so don't worry about only using the larger ones. They also commented that it breaks down polishes faster too.

I think I am going to look into this some more. I really don't wanna have 2 separate tools when I can purchase an adapter and have 2-in-1.

I'll post back with more info.

Yeah I searched and found the same ones, and a few saying how great it was but not alot on using it and if it would be advisable for a rookie, just wondering how dangerous it could get? If it would be as safe as a porter cable I might go this route instead...

A few good comments were made here:

This was an AWESOME review of three things, one of them being this adapter!:

            good luck!

posted that one while you were posting your response!

It should be safe. I mean it is a DA, just with a little bit more power from the rotary.

Interesting. maybe a add on for inbetween G100/G110/PC and full rotary? or maybe the new G110 has same power?

I sold one a while back, but never got around to using it.

From what I've read, it does work very well when used with the rotary; you just have to use it in the upper rpm range. It does come with a HUGE backing plate, which can be substituted for the bacing plate of the PC (5/16" spindle). The problem is that is weighs quite a bit especially when combined with a heavy rotary. I will say that it is built very well - it's a solid chunk of aluminum.

We use them everyday in our body shop as a final buff step an the work very well even with entry level employees in our clean up dept.

Thanks for the feedback shyneman and porscheguy.

The weight issue is something I was thinking about when I was reading into all this... I guess I'll just have to see for myself whenever I get enough to get it.

                      Thanks again!
