  • Orange Peel leveling

I got my car painted a month ago, and the clearcoat has quite a orange peel look and feel to it.

I´was thinking I´d try to even it out.

Do i need to use a heavy cut combination for this?
Do i need wool pads for this?
..or does it need to be wetsanded first?

I´ll be using a Makita rotary.
If it matters, the car is painted in tow-component paint, bought from Toyota.

    Thanks,
    Joenok

    Re: Orange Peel leveling

Hi. Assuming that you are well versed in machine polishing and willing to face the consequences if a mistake happen, -- the products and tools that must be in your arsenal (from my experience)

A PTG might be good to have. Not a necessity but good to see how much paint your removing.

Sanding - DA sander with diff grits (dont forget to finish on a higher grit ie:3000- easier to buff off).

Compounding - #105/95 (best compouding products I even use!) + wool pads to remove the sanding marks (or even pig tails).

Polishing - #83 & #80 to polish with foam pads

    LSP

Adding to that, it again depends on several factor - workability of your paint, product available to you, time, your buffing skill+exp. Well I just sharing what I know.

Hope this helps and all the best.

    Tim

I've always wondered this myself. Sounds like a very successful plan!

I am somewhat new to this, but I have never heard of wetsanding with a DA sander though. Both times I have done it or any other time I've seen it done it was by hand?
