  • Wen Rotary...need assistance

Hello to all. I have an older Wen Rotary that uses a large flathead screw to attach the standard backing plate. I want to buy 6.5" backing plate with the velcro so I can use my meguiars pads. I noticed that the meguiars rotary backing plate has a threaded female end which means you need a male end on the rotary. Unfortunatley I have a female end stud on the rotary, hence the large screw used to attach the standard backing plate.

Do any of you know where I can get a double sided threaded stud (male end / male end) to use with the meguiars 6.5" backing plate or does meguiars offer something like this?

    Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly we needed a male/male threaded stud for some other tool in the house and after asking the right guy at Home Depot he was able to point us to the right section. In our store it was by the grinders and sanders for some reason. Try asking a couple guys at Home Depot and they might be able to show you where it is.

Not sure this can be done without having someone actually machine you an adapter. Most of the Wen polishers with this style adapter tend to be on the light duty side also, might hold up for buffing out cars... might not...

You can get one of the Harbor Freight units for around $30.00 and it will have the right spindle on it and some people have had pretty good luck with them as far as how long they hold up.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will check with home depot.

Mike, I'm going to try out the Wen first since I already have it and if it doesn't work I'll go with a DeWalt or a Makita.

BTW, I bought your "how to" video and it was great. Learned some good points. Do you plan on making one for the Rotary?
