  • Learn from my mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made a very big boo boo this afternoon and I hope you all will take a minute and learn from it.

ALWAYS SECURE HOOD PINS BEFORE BUFFING!!!!!!!!!!

Now, a little history, I have buffed and polished hundreds of cars with hood pins. Never once have I had any kind of problem..........until today I have always removed the hood pins, then secured them in the grill, and taped the up and out of the way(this method bit me in the butt today). I was buffing the hood with an 8" wool pad, and I don't know what happened, maybe the wind from the buffer aggravated something or who knows what happened. But the wool pad snatched the hood pin cable, and slung it onto the hood. It sounded absolutely horrible! Like a glass mug breaking on a concrete floor.

Make sure you take the hood pins out, pop the hood, and place the hood pins inside the engine compartment, then close the hood.

    Here is the result

This could have been a lot worse! I got lucky on this one, and the owner was very nice and understanding about it. Plus it didn't crease the metal or break the paint. Should be able to get them out with a good PDR guy.

The pic tells it all, sorry you had to experience that.

This might at least make you smile, my brother in law was working for me and was buffing the roof of a 87 mercury when the cord came unplugged he sat the buffer, wheel down on the roof bent over to plug it back in and forgot he had the trigger lock on and as he was standing up plugged it in the buffer took off whacked him in the head and spun down across the hood luckily the only damage was to his pride and his forehead but wish i would have caught it on video.

That would hurt a lot. Not to mention the aforementioned pride damage.
