  • Quick trial of my new makita.

this is my first time using the makita. had it for three weeks and finally had a little time to try it out. love the rotary very fun and easy to use. didnt have much time so i just did a quick job.

how the panel first was.(a fender from a toyota)

after claying what i had to work with.

only worked a small section didnt do the entire panel. only took me about five minutes one pass of 83 at 1000rpm.

used my stock makita 7 inch backing pad. i think it fits perfectly over the 6.5 inch pad.

I've seen Kevin Brown of this forum use the bigger backing plate for 8" pads for the 6.5" pads to keep the pad flat on bigger surfaces(I think), should work fine. I thought of doing it too on the kid's '66 Dodge D100 SS paint that is in need of a good detailing.

Good job on the panel, big turn around, I was Uggg, that is bad!

That is a huge improvement using doing just one pass. Great work.

Very nice job. Nice that you like the rotary (respect it)

Keep in mind that maybe you see it's OK to work with that backing plate because you are working in a junk yard panel that you have it in a horizontal position but when going a hole car get the meguiar's backing plate for this pad because sometimes you have to bend a little the pad (remember that no all panels are flat or in a horizontal position) and because the backing plate is bigger than the pad you could potentially touch the paint with the backing plate and you know what's going to happen.

Again very nice job on the panel

It'd be interesting to pull it out into the sun and see if you ended up with any holograms. They aren't always easily detectable with halogens.

This is very true, sunlight exposes swirls and buffer trails or holograms differently than other types of lighting sources, this is why Meguiar's teaches the practice of using different light sources to inspect your work.
