We used to have one of these out in Meguiar's Garage, it's basically a rotary buffer shaped like a drill. It works just like a rotary buffer so you have a pretty powerful tool for removing defects, it's just a matter of personal preference as far as how you hold the tool.

Personal experience demonstrated it was a tad more tiring to use versus using the traditionally shaped rotary buffer as you have more leverage over the buffing pad because of the longer body.

Thanks for the reply Mike, I also feel that it's centre of gravity is a bit high and would compromise a bit on the stability. Do you have any idea on which area on a vehicle that this machine could have an advantage over the traditional ones? Maybe with smaller pad/BP?

Not really. Would have to buff out a few cars with one to really get the feel of the tool in order to offer any insight or opinion.
